General informations
The belly button piercing (although called navel piercing) consist of a curved barbell, a piece of jewelry on the lower side and a ball that unscrew on top end (gold flower navel piercing, salamander navel piercing)
There is another type of piercing type for belly button for an elegant and original finish: the inverse navel, consisting of a jewel that you put on from top to bottom (and not bottom to top like standard navel piercing) with the piercing covering the belly button.
What size is a belly button piercing?
1,6mm (14G) is the standard and most common belly button piercing gauge size.
10mm (3/8inch) is the standard and most common length for belly button piercing.
Every piercing professional pierces a little differently so length can sometimes vary from 6mm(1/4inch) to more rarely 12mm(1/2inch).
How to measure your belly button piercing?
It is important to have a navel piercing jewel at the perfect length.
A barbell that is too short can compress the the skin and be painful when a barbell that is too long may bump or get caught in clothes and might reduce skin space on your piercing.
To find the size of your curved barbell you need to measure the inner length between the two balls (or jewels) in a straight line.
Note that you don't include the screw thread when measuring the barbell length
As previously indicated, the barbell length will be between 6mm(1/4inch) to 12mm(1/2inch). 10mm(3/8inch) remains the most common barbell length for a belly button piercing.
Alternatively, if you measure the length from the top of your navel to the hole of your piercing, this will indicate you the approximate size of piercing you should choose for your belly button piercing
